The AYS Day Treatment Programs provide a highly structured environment to teach children appropriate behavior patterns that enables them to properly
function in a public school setting. The treatment programs provide youth with the opportunity to achieve and develop academically, mentally, and socially. It
was designed to provide highly intensive behavioral and educational programming to students. Students must be referred from local school districts.

The programs are located in the Central Cambria School District. AYS utilizes relationships with Central Cambria and the Appalachia Intermediate Unit 08 to provide all educational components of the programs. The programs accept children ages 5-20. The programs offer low student to staff ratios to promote growth. AYS utilizes its residential experience to work through issues that
youth may be encountering in a public school setting. Weekly individual therapy sessions are done with students to build stability and encourage growth.
The AYS staff and teachers from the Appalachia Intermediate Unit 08 have the objective of providing a safe, nurturing, and pleasant classroom environment. Great emphasis is placed on meeting the health and safety needs of the students. Emphasizing the importance of education begins with the establishment of positive interactions and ending the student’s negative attitudes and experiences from the past. Counseling and support services are designed to uncover and treat the issues each child must address. Success is achieved through consistent enforcement of rules, direct confrontation,
accountability, and individual therapy. The programs emphasize and reward positive behaviors, directly control inappropriate behaviors, and teach the students to make positive choices, not repeated negative choices utilizing the principles of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).
